The king and the elk: Two hundred years of coins and medal design
Have you ever thought about how a coin is made? Can coins have any design? Why did suddenly an elk appear on Norwegian coins in 1958?
Coins are the oldest form of mass produced art and represent a piece of relief sculpture in miniature. This exhibition explores the design and production of coins and medals in Norway, exactly two hundred years since the establishment of the Central Bank of Norway.
